On 16.07.2026, a Honda representative confirmed to automotive publications that the 2026 model year will be the last for the electric Prologue crossover. The company will end production of the model, while dealers will continue selling the remaining vehicles until their inventory runs out.
Honda is not ending support for Prologue vehicles that have already been sold. According to the company, owners will continue to have access to warranty repairs, parts and servicing through the dealer network. Honda has not announced the exact date when the last new vehicle will be sold; that will depend on inventory at individual dealerships.
The end of the Prologue has broader implications. Honda previously canceled three in-house electric vehicles that were expected to replace the model developed with General Motors. As a result, once Prologue inventory is sold, the brand will have no production battery-electric vehicle in its US lineup.
What Honda Confirmed
The confirmation appeared on 16.07.2026 in comments from a Honda representative to Car and Driver and CarBuzz. The following day, Autoblog and MotorTrend published the information. At the time this article was prepared, the company had not issued a separate press release about ending Prologue production.
Honda’s statement contains three key points:
the 2026 model year will be the last for the Prologue;
sales of vehicles already in stock will continue until inventory runs out;
servicing, parts supplies and warranty support will continue.
Ending production does not mean that every Prologue will disappear from dealerships on the same day. Depending on the region, new vehicles may remain available after assembly has ended. Honda has not yet disclosed either the production date of the final vehicle or the size of the final batch.
The Prologue Was Designed as a Transitional Model
The project began on 28.06.2021. Honda then officially announced the Prologue name and said that the future crossover would use an electric platform and Ultium batteries as part of its cooperation with General Motors.
Honda developed the vehicle’s exterior design, tuning and user-facing systems, while its core electric architecture was linked to GM. The Prologue was technically close to the Chevrolet Blazer EV, while the related Acura ZDX used the same foundation. This arrangement allowed Honda to enter the mainstream EV segment more quickly while it prepared its own platform.
On 25.01.2024, Honda revealed the production specifications and announced that the first Prologue vehicles would begin arriving at US dealers in March 2024. The model will therefore remain on the market for only three model years: 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Why Honda Is Ending the Model
In its brief statement about the Prologue, Honda did not give a detailed, model-specific reason. It is therefore not possible to say that the decision was caused by just one factor, such as sales, production costs or the end of its cooperation with GM.
The broader context can be seen in the company’s earlier decisions. On 12.03.2026, Honda announced a revision of its electric vehicle strategy in North America. In the manufacturer’s official statement, the company confirmed that development and launch plans for three models had been canceled:
Honda 0 SUV;
Honda 0 Saloon;
Acura RSX.
These vehicles were planned for production in North America on Honda’s own electric architecture. The company attributed the cancellations to changes in the business environment and a substantial reduction in expected demand for electric vehicles. Honda also said that launching all three models under current conditions could have led to additional long-term losses.
This official explanation concerns the revision of the entire North American program, not just the Prologue. Honda has not publicly disclosed a direct causal link between each of these factors and the end of Prologue production.
How Honda Prologue Sales Changed
The Prologue cannot be described as a model that buyers completely ignored. According to figures cited by Car and Driver, 33 017 vehicles were sold in the US in 2024 and 39 194 in 2025. However, sales totaled 8 407 units in the first half of 2026, down 49% from the same period a year earlier.
Period | US Prologue Sales | Data Status |
2024 | 33 017 vehicles | Figures cited by Car and Driver |
2025 | 39 194 vehicles | Figures cited by Car and Driver |
January–June 2026 | 8 407 vehicles | 49% year-over-year decline, according to the publication |
Automotive media have linked the decline in part to changing conditions in the US EV market and the disappearance of the federal tax incentive. Honda has not said that the loss of this incentive was the sole reason for ending the project.
What the 2026 Honda Prologue Offers
Despite the announced end of production, the 2026 model remains in Honda’s official catalog. The Honda Prologue page lists an 85 kWh battery and an EPA-rated range of up to 308 miles, or approximately 496 kilometers, for the version with the longest range.
The Prologue is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the trim level. For DC fast charging, Honda says the vehicle can recover approximately 65 miles of range in 10 minutes under suitable conditions. Actual charging speed depends on battery temperature, the charging station and the current state of charge.

The high-voltage battery has a limited warranty covering 8 years or 100 000 miles. Ending production does not by itself cancel an existing warranty, but the specific terms always depend on the market, the vehicle’s first-registration date and its warranty documents.
Specification | 2026 Honda Prologue |
Vehicle type | Battery-electric crossover |
Battery | 85 kWh |
Maximum EPA rating | Up to 308 miles, depending on version |
Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive |
High-voltage battery warranty | 8 years or 100 000 miles, subject to warranty terms |
Last model year | 2026 |
What Will Change for Owners
The main practical issue is not the production of new vehicles but support for those already sold. Honda has stated directly that it will continue servicing the Prologue through its dealer network. This includes warranty claims, repairs and parts supply.
Anyone buying a used Prologue should check more than the mileage; the warranty start date also matters. Ask the seller for the service history, documentation for the charging equipment and details of completed recall campaigns. Open recalls should be checked by VIN through Honda’s official service or the NHTSA database.
Before buying a remaining new vehicle, ask the dealer to confirm:
the start date of the basic and battery warranties;
the trim level and drivetrain of the specific vehicle;
whether a portable charger and the selected charging package are included;
the terms for HondaLink and services connected to OnStar;
whether an NACS–CCS adapter for compatible charging stations is included;
which recall work has already been completed for the VIN.

There is currently no basis for saying that ending production will automatically make the Prologue unreliable or leave owners without parts. At the same time, the vehicle’s future resale value or the delivery times for individual components cannot be guaranteed; Honda has not published such forecasts.
Why Honda Will Have No Direct Electric Replacement After the Prologue
The original plan called for the temporary GM-based model to make way for Honda’s own Honda 0 Series electric vehicles. However, on 12.03.2026, the company canceled the North American Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon, along with the electric Acura RSX.
As a result, once Prologue inventory is sold in the US, the Honda brand will have no production BEV model, meaning a vehicle powered exclusively by a traction battery. This does not mean that Honda is abandoning electrified powertrains altogether: the company continues to sell hybrids, while the CR-V e:FCEV uses hydrogen fuel cells and can charge a small battery from the grid.

Honda has also not announced that it is leaving the battery-electric vehicle market permanently. The company’s official position is that it is reviewing its timing, investments and product strategy in response to demand and financial conditions. As of 18.07.2026, no specific Prologue successor has been presented for the US market, and Honda has not announced when it will return with a new BEV.

The Prologue gave Honda a rapid entry into the US mainstream EV segment, but it will not receive an in-house successor. For current owners, the key point is that dealer and warranty support will continue. For the market, the bigger development is that after Prologue sales end, Honda will temporarily have no battery-electric vehicle in the US, with its main focus shifting to hybrid models.
