Gasoline Porsche Macan Leaves the Line: What Remains After July 2026

On July 9, 2026, Porsche clarified the end date for production of the first Macan with an internal combustion engine. The last cars are due to roll off the line in Leipzig by the end of July. After that, the Macan name will stay in the current model lineup, but only on the fully electric second-generation crossover.
Stopping production does not mean gasoline Macans will disappear from sale on August 1. In some countries, dealers will continue selling cars that have already been built, and the model will remain available on the used market for many years. What will no longer be possible is ordering a new car directly into production after the assembly run ends.
When Porsche will end production of the combustion-engine Macan
In the first-half 2026 delivery report published on July 9, Porsche said production of the combustion-engine Macan will continue until the end of July 2026. The company did not name the exact day the final car will be assembled.
At the time of publication, the gasoline Macan was still on sale in most countries outside the European Union. In the EU, availability had already been limited because of automotive cybersecurity requirements. As a result, the impact of the production shutdown will vary by market: in some places new cars have not been available for a long time, while in others dealers will keep selling stock for a while longer.

09.07.2026 | Porsche confirmed the gasoline Macan will end production in late July | Until then, the company had only referred to summer or mid-2026 |
End of 07.2026 | Planned end of Macan combustion-engine assembly | After that, only the electric Macan will be produced |

Why the end of the gasoline Macan matters for Porsche
The Macan has become one of the brand’s key models. Production of the crossover in Leipzig began in 2013, and on July 16, 2025, Porsche announced that the plant had built the one-millionth Macan. In the 2024 financial year, customers took delivery of 82,795 vehicles from this model line.
In 2025, Porsche delivered 84,328 Macans. Of those, 45,367 were electric, and 38,961 used a combustion engine. The electric version crossed the halfway mark in the model line for the first time, but the gasoline car still enjoyed strong demand in markets where it remained on sale.
In the first half of 2026, the balance shifted again. Of the 35,315 Macans delivered, combustion-engine versions accounted for 19,695 cars, while the Macan Electric accounted for 15,620. The gasoline variant outpaced the electric one by 4,075 vehicles. At the same time, total model-line volume was down 22% compared with January-June 2025.

Porsche is ending the gasoline model at a point when it still accounts for a meaningful share of Macan deliveries. That makes the current situation different from a normal generation change, when a new car with the same powertrain type is already ready to replace its predecessor.
What buyers will have left after July 2026
New gasoline cars from stock
After the line stops, dealers will only be able to sell cars that have already been built. Availability, trims, and sales timing will depend on the country and the importers’ stock. The registration date for such a car may be later than its production date, so when buying one, it is worth checking the model year, the production date by VIN, and when the warranty period starts.
Used gasoline Macans
Ending production does not change the status of cars that are already registered. They will continue to change hands and be serviced under the current terms for each market. For a used Macan buyer, the condition of the individual car, service history, mileage, and equipment level matter more than the fact that the production line has closed.

Shutting down the line does not automatically make every gasoline Macan rare or collectible. By July 2025, Porsche had built one million cars in the family, so the value of any individual example will depend on version, condition, history, and actual local market supply.
Fully electric Macan
The Macan name will remain in Porsche’s catalog. On January 25, 2024, the company held the world premiere of the second-generation electric Macan. This is not a gasoline model with a swapped engine, but a separate vehicle built on the PPE electric platform with an 800-volt architecture.

When choosing between the last Macan with a combustion engine and the Macan Electric, it is important to look at more than the powertrain type. The models differ in platform, drivetrain layout, everyday-use demands, and the logic of long-distance travel. The electric Macan may be the direct continuation of the name, but it is not a full replacement for the old car for every buyer.
Three ways to buy a Porsche Macan after production ends
Once gasoline Macan production ends, buyers will have to choose not just between engines, but between three market segments. Each will have its own limits.
Option | What the buyer gets | What to keep in mind |
New gasoline Macan from remaining stock | A car with no previous owner and factory equipment | Color and option choice will shrink as stock sells through. The production date may differ significantly from the registration date |
Used gasoline Macan | A wider choice of generations, engines, and trim levels | You need to check the service history, mileage, body condition, and whether the actual equipment matches the listing |
New Macan Electric | The current generation of the model, which will continue to be produced after July 2026 | You will need convenient access to charging and an assessment of whether an electric car fits your regular routes |
A new car from stock is for buyers who want an internal combustion engine and no previous owners. The used market gives more freedom in terms of version and budget. The Macan Electric is aimed at buyers who are ready to switch to a different powertrain and factor in charging infrastructure.
Will the gasoline Macan have a direct successor?
Specialized automotive publications report that Porsche is preparing a new crossover with a combustion engine and a possible hybrid version, likely for 2028. However, as of July 10, 2026, the manufacturer had not revealed the final name, specifications, trim lineup, or exact debut date for this model.
It is therefore too early to call the future car the new gasoline Macan. It may take a similar place in the lineup, but Porsche has not yet published enough information to consider it a direct continuation of the first generation.
What the production end means: answers to key questions
Will you be able to buy a new gasoline Macan after July 2026?
Yes, if dealers or importers still have cars that were built earlier. Porsche is stopping production of the model, but that does not ban the sale of already completed vehicles. The time it takes to clear stock will differ by country.
Will servicing a gasoline Macan become more difficult?
Ending production does not mean service will stop immediately. Cars already sold will keep their current warranty terms, and service centers will continue working on the model. Before buying a car from another country, check whether there is official servicing and what the parts-supply situation looks like in the local market.
Will the gasoline Macan get more expensive after the line stops?
It is impossible to predict price changes in advance. Cost will depend on dealer stock, demand, equipment, the condition of the individual car, and the local market situation. Production ending on its own does not guarantee a price increase.
Is the Macan Electric the same generation with an electric motor?
No. The electric Macan is built on a different platform and belongs to the model’s second generation. It has a different architecture, powertrain, and set of usage requirements. What it shares is the name and its place in the Porsche lineup.
When will Porsche’s new crossover with a gasoline engine appear?
Automotive publications expect a new model with gasoline and possibly hybrid versions to arrive around 2028. As of July 10, 2026, Porsche had not announced its final name, specifications, or exact debut date.
What to check when buying one of the last new gasoline Macans
Production date and model year. A car from the last stock batches was not necessarily built in July 2026.
Vehicle status: whether it is with the dealer, in transit, or only listed in the offer.
The exact specification and factory options by VIN, not just the wording in the listing.
Warranty terms and the date the warranty starts in the specific country.
The availability of official servicing and parts supply for the chosen market.
The price difference versus a comparable used car and the electric Macan.

After July 2026, the Macan market will effectively split into three parts: new gasoline cars left with dealers, a broad used market for the first generation, and the Macan Electric, which will continue to be produced. Between the end of the old model and the arrival of a possible new crossover with gasoline or hybrid versions, there will be a period in which the electric Macan is the only new member of the family on the production line.
