Frequently asked questions
The NX 350h is a conventional HEV that cannot be connected to a charging station, while the NX 450h+ is a PHEV that can be charged from an external power source. Both versions retain a gasoline engine.
At a 50 kW DC charging station, Lexus estimates approximately 35 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. With 240 V AC charging, charging from 10% to 100% takes approximately 2.5 hours.
The 450h+ is worth considering for drivers who have convenient charging at home or work and can regularly replenish the battery during normal parking. Drivers without nearby charging may find the 350h easier to use.
The 2027 Lexus NX offers two different approaches to everyday driving: refuel the conventional 350h hybrid with gasoline, or charge the 450h+ regularly so that part of your trips can be completed on electricity. The plug-in version now supports DC fast charging. However, this feature alone does not make it the better choice for every driver.
Lexus published the first announcement of the updated NX on September 1, 2026. On October 20, the company revealed additional specifications, and automotive publications released their first reviews. This article covers the US-market versions: equipment, charging connectors and vehicle specifications for other markets should be checked separately.
350h and 450h+: key differences
Non-hybrid versions are leaving the US NX lineup. At the same time, the word “hybrid” does not mean identical operating conditions. The NX 350h cannot be connected to a charging station, while the NX 450h+ can store electricity from an external power source. Both versions retain a gasoline engine.

The following specifications are listed in Lexus’s technical announcement dated October 20, 2026. Power is given in US hp; the manufacturer currently identifies these figures as preliminary.
Specification | NX 350h | NX 450h+ |
|---|---|---|
System type | Conventional hybrid, HEV | Plug-in hybrid, PHEV |
Combined power | 244 hp | 324 hp |
Drivetrain | Front- or all-wheel drive, depending on trim | All-wheel drive only |
Electric driving range | No separate range stated in the release | 45 miles, approximately 72 km — Lexus estimate |
AC charging | Not available | Approximately 2.5 hours from 10–100% at 240 V |
DC fast charging | Not available | Approximately 35 minutes from 10–80% at a 50 kW station |
Lexus quotes charging times under ideal conditions. Approximately 72 km of electric range is a manufacturer estimate, not the final EPA result or a guaranteed range. As of October 21, 2026, the date this article was prepared, final EPA figures had not yet been published in the release.
What changed besides power
Lexus has redesigned the hybrid powertrain: the transmission, electric motor and power-control electronics are combined into a more compact unit. During acceleration, the system is intended to use the electric component more actively, reducing the need to raise the gasoline engine’s revs sharply. This is the stated aim of the update, not the result of our own road test.
The rear electric motor’s control has also been revised on all-wheel-drive versions. The E-Four system can maintain all-wheel drive during straight-line driving, rather than only when pulling away, managing wheelspin or taking a corner. When comparing the 350h and 450h+, it therefore makes sense to consider not only power but also the specific drivetrain configuration.
35 minutes of charging: when does it make sense?
The US-market NX 450h+ is equipped with an NACS connector. Fast charging makes it possible to top up the battery during a stop, but the stated 35 minutes applies to the 10–80% range. Lexus does not promise a fully charged battery in that time.
Were you already planning to stop, or would the stop be only for charging?
If you are stopping for lunch anyway and a compatible station is nearby, charging can fit naturally into the route. If you have to leave the road and wait separately, compare the time and electricity cost with continuing the journey on gasoline. For a plug-in hybrid, this stop is an option, not a requirement for continuing to drive.
That follows from the basic principle of a PHEV: the vehicle combines electric drive with an internal-combustion engine and can continue traveling after its available electric charge has been used. The US Department of Energy explains how this type of system works. The ability to drive without connecting to the grid remains, but regular charging lets you use the electric component more often.

Two ways to choose
You have charging at home or work. The 450h+ is worth considering because you can replenish the battery during normal parking. Compare your daily route with the vehicle’s real-world range in your climate, while keeping a reserve.
The vehicle is parked outdoors and there is no convenient charger nearby. Start your comparison with the 350h. You do not need to change your usual route to connect it to the grid and use its hybrid system.
Equipment: what to check during a test drive
The NX is offered in Premium, Premium+, F SPORT and Luxury trims. Front-wheel drive is available on the 350h in the first two trims; the other versions have all-wheel drive. A 14-inch central display is now standard. Interior features include an integrated dashcam, while higher trims offer Sensory Concierge, which combines lighting, audio, climate and fragrance settings.

In its October 20 review, MotorTrend noted the powertrain’s calmer operation but clarified that the test route did not include a highway. In its article published the same day, Autoblog praised the ride smoothness and quietness, although the author did not like every cabin-control solution. These are journalists’ impressions: during your own test drive, it is more useful to check how the engine starts under acceleration, how convenient the climate controls are and how clearly you can see the instruments from your driving position.

Three questions to ask the seller
Which market was the vehicle built for, and which charging connector does it have?
Which features are included in this specific trim, and do they work in the country where the vehicle will be used?
What is the final price difference between comparable 350h and 450h+ versions?
The premium for the 450h+ should be assessed together with charging availability. Compare the vehicle price, your own mileage and local electricity rates. Without this information, it is not possible to promise that the plug-in hybrid will pay for itself.
When will sales and pricing begin?
Lexus is directing buyers to the launch of the updated NX by the end of 2026. In its October 20 announcement, the company had not yet disclosed prices and said they would be announced closer to the start of sales. For now, buyers can compare the versions’ systems and equipment, then make the final budget decision once a local price list is available.
