Chinese Bestseller Geely EX2 Arrives in the UK: What Buyers Get

Geely is launching the compact EX2 electric hatchback in the UK. In China, the model is known as the Xingyuan and became the country’s best-selling car in 2025. The UK range includes three trim levels, two traction batteries and prices starting at £20 990.

On 01.07.2026, Geely Auto UK officially confirmed the EX2 launch, released the full specifications on 15.07.2026 and scheduled the first customer deliveries for 25.08.2026. The model becomes the brand’s third vehicle in the UK, following the EX5 electric crossover and the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid.

Why the Geely EX2 is called a Chinese bestseller

In its home market, the car is sold as the Geely Xingyuan. In the official announcement dated 01.07.2026, Geely’s UK division stated that more than 450 000 units of the model were sold in 2025. Monthly sales exceeded 50 000 cars in some periods.

Success in China does not automatically guarantee the same result in the UK. The European version undergoes different certification, has its own trim structure and is rated under the WLTP cycle. Chinese prices and range figures therefore cannot be transferred directly to the UK EX2.

Three trim levels with a simple range structure

The UK range consists of the Pro, Max and Ultra versions. The entry-level Geely EX2 Pro starts at £20 990 and uses a 35,35 kWh battery. Its electric motor produces 60 kW, while the claimed range reaches 252 km under WLTP.

Standard Pro equipment includes synthetic seat upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, an 8.8-inch digital instrument display and a 14.6-inch central screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, seven airbags and V2L vehicle-to-load functionality are also included.

The Max starts at £23 490. Its main advantages are a battery with 47,14 kWh of usable capacity and a more powerful 85 kW electric motor. WLTP range increases to 345 km, while acceleration to 100 km/h improves from 14,2 to 11,5 seconds.

The Geely EX2 Ultra starts at £25 490. It uses the same battery and powertrain as the Max, but adds a two-tone body with a black roof, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera system with an underbody view function, wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats and steering wheel, a powered tailgate and a six-speaker audio system.

Current UK prices and market restrictions are listed on the official Geely EX2 page. The manufacturer also points out that real-world range depends on temperature, speed, vehicle load and use of the climate-control system.

Main features

EX2 Pro

Drivers who mainly travel in town and want to keep the purchase price down

Price from £20 990, 35,35 kWh battery, up to 252 km WLTP range and a 60 kW electric motor

EX2 Max

Drivers who need more range without paying extra for additional comfort features

47,14 kWh battery, up to 345 km WLTP range, an 85 kW motor and DC charging up to 80 kW

EX2 Ultra

Drivers who want the highest equipment level with the same range and power as the Max

360-degree cameras, heated seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, a powered tailgate and a two-tone body

In terms of driving range, the Max and Ultra are identical: both use a battery with 47,14 kWh of usable capacity and are rated for up to 345 km under WLTP. The extra cost of the Ultra is mainly for its equipment rather than a more powerful powertrain.

Rear-wheel drive and independent rear suspension

Both powertrains are mounted at the rear and drive the rear wheels. This layout is less common in compact electric cars than front-wheel drive. Geely also uses independent multi-link rear suspension, while MacPherson struts are fitted at the front.

Maximum torque is 150 Nm for both versions. The higher output of the Max and Ultra mainly affects acceleration: the 85 kW version reaches 100 km/h 2,7 seconds faster than the entry-level model. Top speed remains the same at 130 km/h.

The turning circle is approximately 4,96 metres. For a city car, this is more useful than a high top speed: the compact turning circle makes U-turns, parking and manoeuvring in residential courtyards easier.

Range and charging

The standard battery provides up to 252 km under WLTP, while the larger unit offers up to 345 km. Geely’s UK materials also quote approximately 155-156 and 214 miles respectively.

Both batteries can charge from 30 to 80% in approximately 25 minutes, but they support different peak charging powers. The Pro accepts up to 60 kW of direct current, while the Max and Ultra support up to 80 kW. Actual charging time depends on battery temperature, its current state of charge and the capabilities of the charging station.

On the global Geely EX2 page, the manufacturer also describes liquid battery cooling and an “11-in-1” electric drive system that combines the motor, reduction gear and control electronics in a compact module.

Why the Chinese 410 km figure cannot be compared directly with the UK’s 345 km

For the Chinese Xingyuan, Geely claims up to 410 km under the CLTC cycle. The UK EX2 with the larger battery is rated for up to 345 km under WLTP. This difference does not mean that the export version has necessarily lost 65 km of real-world range.

CLTC and WLTP use different speeds, test durations, temperatures and driving-cycle structures. CLTC usually produces a higher result for the same electric car. When comparing models on the UK market, it is more accurate to use WLTP figures only rather than mixing them with Chinese data.

Dimensions, cabin and luggage space

The Geely EX2 is 4 135 mm long, 1 805 mm wide and 1 580 mm high. Its wheelbase is 2 645 mm. Despite its compact body, the car seats five, and the floor in front of the rear seats is flat.

The main luggage compartment holds 375 litres. Folding the rear seats increases capacity to 1 320 litres. A separate 70-litre storage compartment sits under the bonnet, providing space for the charging cable or items that should not be kept with the main luggage.

The manufacturer counts 36 storage spaces in total. These include a 10-litre pull-out drawer in front of the passenger and a 20-litre centre compartment. An additional 28-litre container can be fitted beneath the rear seats, although it is listed as an accessory for the UK version.

Safety equipment

All three trim levels include seven airbags. The driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning and a driver-monitoring system.

The battery uses CATL cells, liquid cooling and 18 temperature sensors. A steel shield protects the battery from below. These features describe the vehicle’s construction, but they do not replace the need to consider independent crash-test results and warranty terms for the specific market.

Frequently asked questions about the Geely EX2

Are the Geely EX2 and Geely Xingyuan the same model?

The UK EX2 is based on the Chinese Geely Xingyuan, but the export version has separate trim levels, prices and specifications for the local market. The UK car’s range is measured under the WLTP cycle, so it cannot be compared directly with the Chinese CLTC figure.

Which Geely EX2 version has the longest range?

The Max and Ultra have the highest claimed range, at up to 345 km under WLTP. The entry-level EX2 Pro, with its smaller battery, is rated for up to 252 km.

How long does rapid charging take?

Geely quotes approximately 25 minutes to charge the battery from 30 to 80%. The Pro supports up to 60 kW of direct-current charging, while the Max and Ultra support up to 80 kW. In real-world conditions, charging speed depends on battery temperature, state of charge and the specifications of the charging station.

Does the Geely EX2 have a front luggage compartment?

Yes. There is a separate 70-litre compartment under the bonnet. It can be used to store the charging cable, tools or smaller items. The main rear luggage compartment holds 375 litres.

Do all versions have rear-wheel drive?

Yes. The electric motor is mounted at the rear and drives the rear wheels in every UK trim. The versions differ in motor output, battery capacity and equipment.

When will Geely EX2 deliveries begin?

The first customer deliveries in the UK are scheduled for 25.08.2026. Geely may announce launch dates for other European countries separately.

What the Geely EX2 launch means for the European market

The Geely EX2 is arriving in the UK not as a copy of the Chinese price list, but as a market-specific version. It has its own batteries, trim levels, WLTP certification and warranty terms. With a starting price below £21 000, the model enters one of the most price-sensitive segments of the electric-car market.

The EX2’s main selling points are its £20 990 starting price, rear-wheel drive, up to 345 km of WLTP range and two luggage compartments with a combined capacity of 445 litres when the rear seats are raised. A more precise assessment will be possible after deliveries begin on 25.08.2026, when independent tests of real-world range, charging performance, comfort and winter efficiency become available.
