Zeekr 8X — new mid-large PHEV SUV: detailed review

Chinese brand Zeekr continues to expand its lineup. One of the key new models is the Zeekr 8X — a plug-in hybrid SUV positioned as a more affordable alternative to the large Zeekr 9X, while retaining premium technologies and a high level of equipment.

Main features of the Zeekr 8X

Hybrid powertrain

The Zeekr 8X is built on the modern SEA-S (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform and is equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines:

  • 2.0 L turbo petrol engine (DHE20-PFZ) with output of 205 kW (275 hp)

  • An NMC chemistry battery supplied through the CATL-Geely partnership

  • Electric range in the WLTC cycle: ≈257 km and up to 328 km on a single charge (depending on battery configuration)

  • Total combined WLTC range can reach 982–1049 km thanks to the hybrid system and battery.

This level of electric range makes the Zeekr 8X one of the leaders among hybrid SUVs for real electric-only range, comparable to dedicated electric vehicles.

Dimensions and size

The Zeekr 8X is a large SUV with well-balanced proportions:

  • Length: 5100 mm

  • Width: 1998 mm

  • Height: 1780 mm

  • Wheelbase: 3069 mm

  • Available in both 5- and 6-seat configurations.

  • Top speed is limited to about 220 km/h.

Design and equipment

The Zeekr 8X retains the brand's signature style:

  • Recognizable cascading front grille

  • Slim headlights and LED elements

  • Two-level taillight lines

  • Options include a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, various wheel sizes and lighting solutions

  • Also available are V2L (vehicle-to-load) external power discharge functions and the ability to drive solely on electric power.

Technologies and the model's future

The Zeekr 8X will become an important part of Zeekr's strategy to expand into hybrid markets, which is especially relevant for Europe, where demand for hybrids remains strong.

Conclusion

The Zeekr 8X is a modern hybrid SUV that combines:

  • Significant electric autonomy for most daily trips

  • High overall range thanks to the hybrid system

  • Premium technologies and Zeekr-style design

This model may be an attractive choice for those who want a premium SUV with substantial electric range without the limitations of a pure electric vehicle.
