The Slate Truck attracted attention with a price below $25,000, but it cannot be purchased for exactly that amount. The recommended price of the base version is $24,950, while the mandatory delivery fee adds another $1,450. The minimum vehicle price including delivery is $26,400—before taxes, registration, documentation fees, and additional accessories.
For that money, the buyer gets more than a bare demonstration shell without equipment: it is a full rear-wheel-drive electric pickup with air conditioning, cruise control, a charging cable, and an estimated range of 205 miles. The savings come from elsewhere. The cabin has no central screen or factory audio system, the windows are manually operated, the body is available only with gray composite panels, and many familiar features are listed as accessories.

How the Slate Truck Price Was Set
On April 24, 2025, Slate unveiled its first vehicle as a simple, modular electric pickup that could later be converted into a five-seat SUV. At the time of the debut, the company was targeting a price of around $27,000 before any potential incentives, but it had not yet announced the final price.
On June 24, 2026, the manufacturer published official Slate Truck pricing and updated specifications. The base price was set at $24,950, the estimated range was increased to 205 miles, and reservations opened with a $300 deposit. First deliveries were scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
On July 14, 2026, it became known that the mandatory delivery fee would be $1,450. Once added, the minimum price increased to $26,400. The manufacturer still displays $24,950 on its website, alongside a note explaining that delivery, taxes, registration, and documentation fees are charged separately.

What Buyers Get in the Base Configuration
One Motor, Rear-Wheel Drive, and a 63-kWh Battery
The Slate Truck uses a single electric motor on the rear axle. Claimed output is 181 hp and 264 N·m, acceleration to 60 mph takes about 8 seconds, and top speed is limited to 90 mph, or approximately 145 km/h.
The 63-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery is expected to provide about 205 miles, or 330 km, on a single charge. This is the manufacturer's estimate based on an approximate EPA cycle, not a final certified rating. Actual range will depend on temperature, speed, payload, and installed accessories.
You do not need to buy a portable charging cable separately: it is included as standard equipment. The official Slate charging page states that a household outlet adds approximately 2–5 miles of range per hour, a Level 2 source adds 25–35 miles per hour, and fast charging from 20% to 80% takes about 30 minutes. The truck uses an NACS connector.

Pickup Utility Without an Expensive Trim
The base Slate is designed for two people and has a two-door cab. The bed is slightly longer than five feet, or about 1.5 meters. A 7-cubic-foot front trunk, approximately 198 liters, is located under the front hood.
Payload capacity is claimed at 1,550 pounds, or about 703 kg. The permitted trailer rating reaches 2,000 pounds, or approximately 907 kg. Those figures make the Slate suitable for carrying tools, sports equipment, and a small trailer, although it is not intended for full-size pickup duties.

What the Cabin Has—and Lacks
The base model includes air conditioning, cruise control, a digital instrument panel, and physical controls, but no central touchscreen or built-in audio system. The seats are upholstered in fabric and manually adjustable, while the windows use mechanical cranks. For navigation and multimedia, the manufacturer suggests using a smartphone or purchasing separate components.

How Much Do the Options for Everyday Use Cost?
Audio System: From $399.98
For playing music, Slate offers a $249.99 central Bluetooth speaker and a $149.99 set of side speakers mounted on the dashboard. Together, they raise the vehicle price to $26,799.98. A tablet that can be mounted on the dashboard and used as a multimedia screen appears in the configurator, but its price has not yet been announced.
Different Body Color: From $499
All vehicles leave the factory with the same gray composite panels. Instead of paint, Slate offers vinyl wraps. Around 40 standard colors are listed at $499, while a custom full-body wrap was priced at $1,599.99 in the configurator. Special finishes and complex graphics may cost more.
Conversion to a Five-Seat SUV: From $5,000
The largest surcharge is not related to multimedia but to changing the body style. The Squareback kit adds a three-seat rear row, a structural frame, additional airbags, and an upright rear section. It costs $5,000, bringing the vehicle's price including delivery to at least $31,400.
The Fastback version, with a more sloping roof, costs $7,000 more than the base pickup. Its starting price including delivery reaches $33,400. The manufacturer allows buyers to order the vehicle in either configuration from the outset or install the kit later.

Wheels and Other Accessories
A set of 20-inch wheels was listed at $1,399.99 in the configurator. Other available options include cargo systems, additional lighting, fender flares, a spare-wheel carrier, protective components, and ride-height modification kits. Prices for some of these items have not yet been published, so it is not possible to calculate the final cost of a fully equipped work or off-road version in advance.
Configuration | What was added | Estimated price |
Base pickup | Mandatory delivery only | $26,400 |
Pickup with audio system | Central and side speakers | $26,799.98 |
Pickup with audio system and basic wrap | Speakers and $499 wrap | $27,298.98 |
Squareback SUV | Five-seat body with an upright rear section | $31,400 |
Squareback SUV with audio system and wrap | SUV kit, speakers, and wrap | $32,298.98 |
Fastback SUV | Five-seat body with a sloping roof | $33,400 |
Fastback SUV with audio system and wrap | SUV kit, speakers, and wrap | $34,298.98 |
All calculations include the $1,450 delivery fee but exclude taxes, registration, documentation, local fees, and any installation of accessories by a third-party specialist. The prices come from the pre-production configurator and may still change.
Can the Slate Truck Become as Expensive as a Typical New Vehicle?
Yes, if expensive options are added one after another. Car and Driver assembled a Fastback SUV with a custom wrap, 20-inch wheels, additional lighting, cargo systems, and numerous decorative details. The configurator total reached $46,294.39, although some of the selected items did not yet have prices at the time.
This calculation does not mean that buyers will have to spend more than $46,000. It shows the upper limit of the accessories catalog, not a typical configuration. For everyday use, buyers can limit themselves to the audio system and, if desired, a body wrap. The price would then remain within $27,000–27,300 before taxes and registration.
Warranty and Service
The battery and powertrain are covered by a 10-year or 110,000-mile warranty, with the battery guaranteed to retain at least 70% of its capacity. The vehicle's general limited warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles, and the same coverage period applies to roadside assistance. The terms are published on the official Slate service page.
The company is relying on owners to install accessories themselves and handle some straightforward repairs. Free Slate U instructions are being prepared for this purpose, while owners who do not want to service the vehicle themselves will have access to a network of partner workshops. How well this system will work in practice should become clear after mass deliveries begin.
What Remains Unknown
The final range under the certified EPA cycle.
Independent crash-test results and final safety ratings.
Prices for the tablet, ride-height modification kits, and some work-oriented accessories.
The vehicle's total cost after taxes and registration fees in a particular state.
The exact calendar date when deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Who Is the Base Slate Really For?
The $26,400 price is compelling for buyers who want a simple two-seat electric pickup for city driving, work, or short daily trips. The base vehicle already includes climate control, a charging cable, and the essential functions, so there are few must-have purchases after delivery.
Anyone expecting five seats, built-in multimedia, conventional power windows, and a painted body will need to budget from $31,000–34,000. The Slate remains relatively affordable only as long as the owner selects its modular options carefully rather than trying to add everything in the catalog at once.
