Range Rover Sport Goes Electric: What Goodwood Revealed—and What It Didn’t

On 16 July 2026, Range Rover officially confirmed the launch of the Range Rover Sport Electric — a fully electric version of its dynamic SUV. The prototype has already been shown on the Goodwood track, but the manufacturer has not yet announced its power output, battery capacity, range, charging speed, or price.

This is worth keeping in mind because specialist publications have already published preliminary figures. Some may be close to the production specifications, but as of 19 July 2026, Range Rover has not officially confirmed them.

What happened in July 2026

The first presentation took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, held from 9 to 12 July 2026. During the event, Range Rover held a private preview of the electric Sport and demonstrated the prototype in motion on the Goodwood Motor Circuit.

A few days later, on 16 July 2026, the manufacturer published an official announcement. In it, Range Rover described the Sport Electric as the brand’s second electric vehicle after the flagship Range Rover Electric and said that full details of the new model would be revealed later in 2026.

The separate Range Rover Electric appeared in public earlier. On 2 July 2026, the company announced that its production version would be shown to Goodwood visitors from 9 to 12 July. These vehicles should not be confused: the Range Rover Electric is based on the flagship model, while the Sport Electric expands the separate Range Rover Sport family.

What Range Rover has officially confirmed

So far, the company has revealed the model’s main principles rather than a technical specification sheet. The Range Rover Sport Electric will have a fully electric powertrain and specially tuned chassis. The manufacturer says it will retain the character of the current Sport: quick responses, confident performance across different surfaces, and a stronger focus on handling than the flagship Range Rover.

The company has also mentioned a new sound system. No details about how it works are available, so it is too early to say whether it will continuously imitate powertrain noise or change according to the selected driving mode.

The prototype’s design is close to that of the production Range Rover Sport. Published images show that the electric SUV retains the familiar body proportions, slim lighting units, and pronounced shoulder line. The most visible differences are the closed upper section of the grille and the absence of exhaust pipes.

The electric model will not replace petrol and hybrid versions

The arrival of the Sport Electric does not mean an immediate end for internal-combustion engines. Range Rover has stated clearly that the electric version will supplement the existing range.

After its launch, the family is expected to continue offering a plug-in hybrid, V8 petrol versions, and six-cylinder petrol and diesel models. The current official Range Rover Sport page already lists the future electric version separately from the PHEV, petrol, and diesel variants.

This approach gives buyers a choice between a fully electric vehicle and versions that may be easier to use in regions with limited charging infrastructure or for regular long-distance travel.

Which specifications remain unconfirmed

After the Goodwood debut, Autocar and Car and Driver published preliminary information about two electric motors, all-wheel drive, output of around 550 hp, and a range of more than 300 miles. Autocar also gives an estimate of up to 380 miles under the WLTP cycle and a projected battery capacity.

These figures cannot yet be treated as production specifications. The official announcement of 16 July contains no precise information about the number of electric motors, power output, torque, battery, or driving range. In addition, different publications give varying torque estimates, further indicating that the information is preliminary.

How the Sport Electric will differ from the Range Rover Electric

Both models belong to the same brand but are intended for different uses. The flagship Range Rover focuses primarily on comfort, quietness, and a smooth ride. On the official electric models page, the manufacturer specifically highlights the nearly silent powertrain, smooth acceleration, and the ability to charge at home or at public stations.

The Sport Electric is expected to retain a more dynamic positioning. The company refers to increased output, a newly tuned chassis, and more engaging vehicle responses. However, it is too early to compare its acceleration with that of the petrol-powered Range Rover Sport SV: official acceleration figures and top speed have not been released.

When will the production Range Rover Sport Electric arrive?

The 16 July press release states that the model will arrive later in 2026 and that detailed information will be announced before the end of the year. However, the exact start date for taking orders and delivering vehicles to customers has not been given.

It is also not known which markets will receive the vehicle first. This matters to international buyers because regional versions may differ in equipment, charging connectors, certified range, and price.

Until Range Rover publishes the official technical specification, the Sport Electric is best viewed as a confirmed production model whose specifications have not yet been disclosed. The manufacturer has shown the vehicle’s design and defined its place in the lineup, but the key figures — battery, power output, charging, and range — should come during the next stage of the presentation.
