Bugatti Destrier: What We Know About the One-Off Based on the Bolide

On August 6, 2026, specialist automotive publications reported on the Bugatti Destrier — a one-off that, according to those reports, was built on the track-focused Bolide platform and equipped with an 8.0-liter W16 featuring four turbochargers and producing 1,578 hp. The reports also mention a seven-speed automated gearbox and all-wheel drive.

There is, however, an important qualification. As of August 9, 2026, Bugatti's available official publications contain no separate press release titled Destrier. The name, power output, technical details and project status are therefore presented here as information reported by specialist media, rather than specifications confirmed by the manufacturer.

What Has Been Reported About the Destrier

According to automotive publications, the Destrier uses the Bugatti Bolide as its foundation but has different bodywork and an altered interior. While the Bolide is built around track-focused aerodynamics, media reports describe the Destrier as having less aggressive styling and an interior more typical of a road-going hypercar.

The reported 1,578 hp matches the output of the Bolide discussed in those publications. That makes the claim plausible as a version of the source reports, but it is not a substitute for an official model specification. Until Bugatti publishes a release, it cannot be stated that the Destrier uses the same engine calibration, an identical transmission or approval for use on public roads.

Why “Based on the Bolide” Matters

The Bolide is not simply a Bugatti with a larger rear wing. In its official materials, the brand explicitly describes it as a racing car not intended for use on public roads. It is designed for slick tires, high downforce and circuit driving. If the Destrier has a different purpose, the changes should involve more than body panels; they would also need to address cooling, suspension, calibration and homologation.

What Bugatti Has Confirmed Officially

On August 7, 2025, Bugatti introduced Programme Solitaire — a program for one-off cars. The brand announced a limit of up to two such cars per year and presented its first project, the Brouillard. The existence of this program confirms that the one-off format is part of Bugatti's plans, but it does not prove that the Destrier belongs to it: Bugatti has not issued separate confirmation.

In an official report on an event for Bolide owners dated June 3, 2026, the company again emphasized the model's track-only character and stated that it is not intended for use on public roads. In another communication, Bugatti noted that the Bolide is built around a lightweight structure and a W16 engine for the most demanding circuits.

The company also reported that the final Bolide was handed over to its owner in 2025 and that production of W16 projects was nearing its end. This context was outlined in Bugatti's official review dated January 7, 2026. It explains why reports of a new W16-powered car attract attention, but it does not justify calling the Destrier “the last Bugatti with a W16” without a separate statement from the brand.

How to Distinguish a Rare Report from a Confirmed Model

For a production car, the model appearing in a configurator, a press release and technical data is usually enough to establish its identity. One-off cars follow a different pattern: some information may appear only after a private presentation or public unveiling. Even so, the minimum evidence should be clear — an official publication naming the car, showing photographs, describing its basis and stating whether it is approved for road use.

For now, the Destrier is more interesting as a case study in the boundary between a track car, a bespoke one-off bodywork project and a road-going hypercar. Once Bugatti publishes its own data, it will become clear exactly what was changed compared with the Bolide and whether the Destrier should be viewed as a standalone model rather than an individual body built around familiar technology.

The Bottom Line

Reports dated August 6, 2026 provide enough material for a careful analysis, but not for definitive conclusions. The Destrier's exact specifications, legal status and place within Bugatti's program remain unconfirmed by the manufacturer. In this situation, it is more accurate to leave the questions open than to attribute a price, records or road homologation to the car when Bugatti has not yet announced them.
